Mary Brett - Birth c1841
« on: Thursday 13 April 06 13:55 BST (UK) »
Would like to know more about Mary Brett. The earliest information i have about her, is when she married John Lynn in Paisley, Scotland in 1870.

My dad says that this marriage to John Lynn (a catholic) meant that Mary had to give up any chance of inheriting the Dunowla estate from her father Major Henry Brett.

Confusion reigns when looking at her parents in her marriage / death certificates.
Marriage - Father Peter Brett  Mother Margaret Flynn
Death      - Father Henry Brett Mother Bridget Flynn

Any info would be most welcome.
Brian.

Have just found out that my ancestor was Frances (Fanny) Brett born around 1845 in Sligo, Father Henry Brett.  She married Robert Shannon and was living in Dunowla at the time of the 1901 census.  I see there were two Brett families in Dunowla on the census and believe them to be her relatives possibly brothers.  It's possible that you Mary Brett is a Sister of Frances.  If so I would be delighted to hear any info you have on the family - Major Henry Brett caught my eye and sounds like an interesting character.  Any help or info would be gratefully received.

Thanks Karen
