Rempstone Inn Keeper 1825
« on: Friday 14 April 06 17:01 BST (UK) »
Hello, very new to this site so apologies in advance for poor etiquette.

I believe I have an ancestor who was the Innkeeper at Rempstone Notts, 1825, all has been very complicated in pinning this info down as my understanding is that the village is under the auspice of Loughborough for registrations PR's etc.

Is there a site or a directory that can be visited to gather historical details of Innkeepers or licensees?

Thank you in anticipation,
Bob

Thank you Steve, for both advisements. I will post correctly in the future. I have trawled through the directories site with little luck, but I will be having another look later.

Not an answer to your question, but a relative of mine was the Innkeeper at Rempstone (White Lion) on the 1871 and 1881 Census's (don't know the plural of census :P) before moving to run a pub in East Leake. - what's the name of your ancestor?

Andy

Thank you for the reply, it seems an age since I was hunting this lead! As it turned out the family group were not mine.
The Inn keeper in 1841 was a Thomas Bonser, the fellow I had hoped was mine was Thomas Cook, he was given as Innkeeper 1824 at the birth of his son also Thomas.
As Rempstone was so close to Loughborough which is the census birth place of my GGF 1824 Thomas Cooke, I was hoping to prove a link. As I researched this family unit through to 1901 I actually disproved my own theory, much to my disappointment.
So I am still brickwalled with Thomas begat Thomas Cooke, Loughboro' 1824!!!
With best regards, Bob

Thomas seems to be a popular name as mine was a Thomas Gunn! I don't think there's any link back to Thomas Bonsar though.

There's another Inn even closer to Loughborough than the one at Rempstone. It's at a place called Hoton - I seem to remember that it's relatively old.

Good Hunting!
Andy

Andy,

I have an ancestor who also ran the White Lion at Rempstone. Her name was Adelaide Gunn (nee Hallam). She married John Gunn in 1850. Later after John's death she remarried and became a Jacobs. Is your Thomas Gunn related to John Gunn? If so do you have any other Gunn information please?

regards
Graham

Hi, you should direct your reply to Andy, my possible was a Thomas Cooke, no longer in the frame and disproved as the Innkeeper.

happy hunting, Bob
