Wallace/Stevenson/ OldKilpatrick
« on: Sunday 16 April 06 01:11 BST (UK) »
Hello: I have posted this in other places but now I know where they come from I thought I'd try here.  I am looking for James Wallace and Annie( Agnes Stevenson) from Old Kilpatrick.  I found an Agnes Stevenson ( widow) on the 1851 Glasgow Census ; children 's last name Wallace. I have seen several instances of entering the woman's maiden name on these early census. the children are the correct names i am looking for so  I think I am right.   the children are: James (1828), Agnes (1831), Janet( 1834), Mary ( 1835).

Mother was born circa 1794. I am hoping they are my Wallace's who moved to  Glasgow, and then after James Married Mary Buchanan, they moved to Bo'ness.  Does anyone have information that cam help?  Thank you...Donna

Hi Donna

I wonder if this is the family in 1841 freecen already showing in Barony, Glasgow. The address is Stobcross Street, Verreville

WALLACE    Agnes,   age 40, Parish Pauper
WALLACE    John, age 18,  Agricultural Labourer
WALLACE    Sarah, age 16,   Cotton Power Loom Weaver
WALLACE    James, age 12,    Glass Blower
WALLACE    Agness, age 10
WALLACE    Janet, age 8
WALLACE    Mary, age 6

By the look of it, Agnes Stevenson was already a widow by 1841.  Everyone with the exception of Mary who was born in Lanarkshire, shows as born outside the county.  You also have a couple of older children listed.

Regards.

Thank you Monica: I entered them with a ? in my family tree program.   The Scottish names pattern is both a curse and a blessing.  So many with all the same names.  I think this is probably them. I will cross reference with some death certs to confirm ( if possible).   Donna
