Calland family Swansea Glamorgan
« on: Monday 17 April 06 14:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find out about the Calland family of Glamorgan to see if that is where the Calland part of our surname comes from.

I have a Major George CALLAND, all I know is that he had a brother Charles. He wrote his will in 1820 because I believe then that he had a son in Exmouth by an  Ann SCOBLE. The surname of the son was George CALLAND SCOBLE.

Has anyone any knowledge of this family or seen them in any census?

Many thanks

Brigcs

I found a Scoble family in 1851 - Catherine and Philip - I'll write it out if you think it might work !!

Hi Brigcs  :D

If they are from Swansea you are in the very best of company  ;)

Try County Hall, they are most helpful

Because of the dates you are looking for you may have to go to the Welsh National Archives, but you can google your way there !!!

Try freecen as in 1841 1851 1861 and 1891 there are families by the name of Calland. Some are born West Derby. I did not try Scoble so i dont know if they are on there.
