Hi I am looking for information on Thomas McEwan who was born in Cappagh Co Tyrone June 15th 1827. His father was Patrick Mc Ewan ,agricultural labourer and his mother was Mary Aitken. Thomas married Mary Hood who may have been from Ireland . He married twice more in Scotland and was a miner at Rosehall Colliery(pit 7) Bellshill Lanarkshire. Can Anyone help. Thanks.

I've just picked this up today. Thomas McEwan from Cappagh, County Tyrone was my Great Grandfather. Thomas was married three times 1] Mary Aitkin who died in Ireland 2]Janet Alexander whom he married in Scotland and 3] Elizabeth Laird who was my Great Grandmother. In all Thomas fathered 18 children and outlived all his wives! His descendants are scattered across the Globe. I have a very old photograph of him with his 2nd wife and their children.

I think Thomas’s first marriage was to Mary Hood, not Mary Aitkin. (It was his father who was married to Mary Aitkin). Mary Hood married Thomas McKeown on 27.4.1846, registered in Omagh, Co. Tyrone. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Many thanks Elwyn. I put the wrong Mary in. Will have a look at the Irish site.
