National Library site
« on: Monday 17 April 06 23:09 BST (UK) »
Hi
Has anyone else had problems getting into the National Library website this evening. I've tried and tried but can't get in. I've not used it for a while, is it still:

www.llgc.org.uk

If you go to this link:

http://www.llgc.org.uk:81/

it should get you into ISYSweb - it is an online searchable catalogue which contains marriage bonds (to 1823 when they were abolished), and various archive collections of papers from Welsh estates, families, etc. A bit like A2A really.

Also, Digital Mirror which has some wonderful images, including the St Asaph Notiitiae

Thanks for trying Kali. It must be down. It went through a period a couple of years back when it was difficult but i thought that the probs had been ironed out - maybe it's holidays.

I'll give it a go tomorrow morning. It has some super stuff in its on-line collection and the St Asaph Notitiae.

It has some really wonderful stuff - marriage bonds, various estate records, oh masses of stuff. A must for anyone researching in Wales.

Can you order copies of the marriage bonds online from the NLW?

I have been blundering around their site and it's not obvious. Do they provide transcriptions, or copies of the real thing for download? Any idea how much it might cost?

Cheers

Yes, once you've identified the particular record. The index is online.

It's a rather strange proceedure - you e-mail them (I'll locate the address which I can't find at the moment - it's not on their site!) with your request. They eventually get back to you with a quote and then send you a confidentiality form etc. which you sign and return with a cheque. You then get a copy of the bond!!

Thanks Gadget. I'm not a UK resident - does the NLW cope with that?
