Help with photos please (1)
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 22:37 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I wonder if anyone can help me with these old photos please. I will have to send them separately - the file is too big. The first one is my Grandmother Annie when she was young but I think it needs a bit of repairing and colouring if possible. The following photo is of her brother Tommy as a young man - he was killed in 1940 on submarine HMS Swordfish when it struck a mine - it was discovered 43 years later and is still at the bottom of the sea.

I think they look alike but the photo quality is not very good. I would be nice to see  if they can be improved at all please. If only one can be done I think my Gran is in need of more repair!

Here's Annie.

Thank you very much to anyone who might be able to help.

Regards

Neptune

im no good with pic'sHMS Swordfish (N 61)
Submarine of the S class

Navy: The Royal Navy
Type: Submarine
Class: S
Pennant: N 61
Built by: Chatham Dockyard (Chatham, U.K.)
Ordered:
Laid down: 1 Dec, 1930
Launched: 10 Nov, 1931
Commissioned: 28 Nov, 1932
Lost: 7 Nov, 1940

History: HMS Swordfish (Lt. M.A. Langley, RN, DSC) sailed from Portsmouth for a patrol off Brest von 7 November 1940. Swordfish failed to signal back to base as sheduled on the 15th and the 16th, and was not heard from again. At the time she was declared overdue she was believed sunk in the Bay of Biscay either on German mines or at the hands of German destroyers. Her wreck was discovered in July 1983 a few miles south of St. Catherine's Point off the Isle of Wight. She had been mined with the loss of all hands, most likely on the day she left base for her patrol.
The wreck lies in 46 meters of water in position 50.24.30N, 01.21.00W.
but have you got this info, cheers kali.

Hi Neptune,

Just to let you know I am having a go at cleaning up your Gran - got this far - will try to finish it off in the next couple of days.
I have  had a "restorers shoulder ache" (altogether now Ahhhhh!!  ;D) - so don't want to do to much in one go.

Cheers

Keith
