Hi Keith,

I gave you the original info regarding William Tabram who was one of six men who slept on board barges on the night of the 1841 census.  The item appears at the end of the entries of Enumerators District 14 covering part of the parish of St.John including the infamous  Butchery Green. HO107/447/3  F.34.  P.41.

Hi Peter,

Of course I know who gave me the original information!! ;D ;D

Haven't you kept most of Hertfordshire happy these last couple of years  8) 8)

All I thought was, as I now have more names in my tree I wondered if I would recognise the others on the barge - or even the next barge (if there was one?!)

And thanks again for all the help you have given me in the past (and hopefully more to come?!?)

Keith

P.S. I've just had another look and still can't find St John even!!

Hi Keith,

William's five sleeping partners on the barge were   ...

Charles Saunders  48 -   Francis Ewington  20   -   John Johnson  35   -  Richard Johnson 40   -   Joseph Aylott 20.
All bargemen born in county except Saunders and Ewington.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for those names - don't ring a bell straight away - but will have a proper look later.

Cheers

Keith

Hi Peter,

I have found a William(?) Tabram on a "Barge on the River Lea" on the Cheshunt page - wonder if he is down twice - or do I now have 2 William Tabram to sort out!!

This one is on HO107/10
Folio 50 Page 80

Again last page -  Cheshunt - district 2

Cheers

Hi Keith,

I notice that the Enumerator for the item HO107/444/10 has used brackets which would suggest that there were three barges in his count.   William shared with John Johnson (33) and a 15 year old NK.    William and John  are also on the Hertford entry and it seems reasonable to accept that they have been duplicated.

Why do you always get the straightforward items.

Cheers matey,

Peter

Hi Petercornish!

I was glancing through this thread and the name Aylott jumped out at me!

I have a Martha Aylott (b.1844 Meesden) in my tree. She was one of two children my Gt Gt. Grandmother (b.1821 Meesden) had before she married.

There's no father's name on the baptism register at Meesden Parish Church but she gave the child the surname of Aylott.

Was it an unusual name do you think? I checked the census records and there was no one else in the vicinity with that surname.

I'm new to this, am I jumping the gun and making 2+2=5?

Of course we will never know but I'd appreciate an opinion.

Cheers

Lyndsey

Hi Lyndsey,

I am not Peter - but expect he will be along shortly ;D ;D

There are a few "Aylotts" down the road in Hitchen & Cottered.

Cheers

Keith
