Mike nice job. I wont ask you how you did it because I seem to be having problems.
My dad was really a kind man and this picture and the other in Uniform bring out his personality.
Thanks for your kindness

Hi Joy,
Here is your dad as best I could get.  I hope you like it.  It's a lovely photo, he has very kind eyes I think  :)
Sorry there's a bit of pixellating around his hair, not sure what was going on there but it's not really noticeable (I hope!  :P )
Cheers
Prue

Hi Joy

I see you have already received the answers to your questions from the experienced members.

I am fairly new to photo restoration myself and frequently refer to the good advice and restored photos posted here to help me.

I agree with Denn to leave Image Ready alone for now as I have not really had any need to use it either.

I always duplicate the background layer which is  always advised and leave the original background in tact. How many layers you use after that depends on what you are actually trying to achieve and It is worth looking at the links that deal with this subject.

As far as colouring goes I leave it well alone. Being colour-blind is a real handicap and I usually end up with very alarming results.  :-[

Just enjoy having a go and you will be surprised what you can achieve in a fairly short time.

By the way I think that the colour versions by Mike and Prue are great :)

David
Please feel free to colour or improve for the benefit of the poster but an acknowledgement would be appreciated

David thanks for your advise but I am having a problem.
I cannot make layers in Adobe, I have to go to Image Ready for some Reason. I go into Adobe check new layers and nothing shows at the bottem so I have to go into image ready to do this for some reason.
I seem to have to work on both programs at once which makes it hard and I do not know why.
Thanks for your help
Joy

You're welcome Joy, glad you like it and that I got the colours right  :)

Are you using a Mac or a PC?  and which version of Photoshop do you have?   Might help us to diagnose your layers problem...

thanks, but David told me what to do. I also read a tutorial and managed to solve the problem.
It is all mind boggling.
I have a question, rather two.
Which tools do you use mostly for restore/and or paint.
How do you manage to get the colors you want. Do you have to set something up, because I only see the main colors and none of them look like myself or my family.
Also what about skin and face?
Did you see the picture of me taken in 1969 which is over 30 years ago? I hope that someone have have a go at it.
Again thanks for your kindness
I must get organized for my work in the morrow
