1841/51 Lookup Haywood of Southwell <Completed>
« on: Sunday 23 April 06 12:47 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to get more info on John Haywood b.1806 in Southwell, who married Esther Curzon (origin unknown) 13/8/1826 in Southwell.

The inclusion of CURZON as a 2nd name for children became tied up with a family legend of wealth to come.

I have a Benjamin CURZON Haywood born 1842 in Nottingham (from FreeBMD), and what are apparently triplets, Harriet CURZON Haywood, Esther CURZON Haywood, and Alice (no Curzon this time) Haywood all the daughters of John and Esther Haywood in the I.G.I. christened on 21 Jul 1861 in Nottingham.

Can anyone help with this mystery with census records from 41, 51 or beyond?

In 1861 Esther has been enumerated as Hannah and the birthplace looks like Auram. In 1871 she is back to Esther, widowed and birthplace is Havenham. This one is clearly written.

I wonder if it could be Averham (pronounced Air-rum)?

Thanks Heather,

What more can I say!

Curzon was still being given as a 2nd given name by Benjamin (born 1842) to his children, one of whom was my aunts mother, Lily May Curzon Haywood.

Hi Margaret,

I personally have no connection with John Haywood, but I have 2 cousins (living in Nottingham) whose Grandmother was Lily May Curzon Haywood, Benjamin's sister, and therefore he (John Haywood) was their Gt Gt Grandfather (I think?).

The information I have on Benjamin (b.June 1887 in Madeley, Shropshire) indicates he married someone called Dorothy, & they had 2 girls, Ida or Iris and Dorothy.

Hope this helps, contact me if you need more.
