St Pancras Registry Office
« on: Monday 24 April 06 10:20 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I am trying to find out what the St Pancras Registry Office looked like from the outside in 1919?
I have a weeding photo that could be of my great grandparents. They were married at the registry office in 1919.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi Belinda,

If you haven't tried it already, I wonder if it might be worth contacting the St Pancras Registry Office itself. I recall visiting one many years ago, when I worked for the GPO, which had old framed photos of the building, and other local landmarks, displayed around the walls.

If you draw a blank there, contact the main public library in St Pancras, (via Google), who might have a pic in their local history collection.

Hope it helps, and good luck!

I got married there and although they have cahnged the entrance putting in sliding doors...... and your photo not showing much background I would say they are the same place in Judd St. http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/leisure/local-history/enquiries-and-opening-hours.en

Is the local history center where you could check, and I am told are very helpful.

Hi Belinda, I just found your (2006!) enquiry on the web about St Pancras Registry office in 1919. I am on a similar mission, also looking for a photo etc. In 1919, the registry office was located at 21 Gudsleigh Street, St Pancras, London. But today, there appears to be no Gudsleigh Street in London. Does anyone know where I could find an earlier map or photos? Thanks, Andrew

Welcome to rootschat.

A post on this thread suggest that it was in Judd Street,  where does mention of Gudsleigh Street come from  :-\

21 Gudsleigh Street was on the 1919 birth certificate I was investigating as the registry office, St Pancras. Maybe 2 registry offices, one for marriages, and one for all the rest, but London's population was much smaller then, so the chance of two is diminished.

Welcome from me too.

I can't find a Gudsleigh Street anywhere in the London area from census addresses.   And I admit to being puzzled about the address of the register office being on a birth certificate.  I've just checked those that I have from that era and while it states the address where the birth took place, the district where it was registered, it doesn't give an address of the office.  Can you post a snip of the certificate where Gusdleigh Street is mentioned?  Although I suspect that won't be possible since this is a 'look-up' board.  Perhaps on the 'Handwriting' board here:

The Registrar's Office and *Camden Council Offices were  a block at the corner of Judd Street and Euston Road from 1950s to ? 1980s when my sister lived in the area and I visited her - I used to live in Belsize Park so walked past it from the tube station

* St Pancras  (memory lapse)

Add @ Wiki have a photo of the building -
