Don't guarantee anything but I shall give it a whirl! I tried reserving a couple of documents last night for today and it said 'not available to the public' which either means they are too fragile or on microfiche - that was encouraging. Have reserved another two however and shall ask about the previous two when there.

This is what I found at Chelmsford Record Office today in the Debden ("St Mary the Virgin and All") Parish Register for baptisms:-

Susannah Hayden daughter of John and Susannah OVERILL born 14 March 1806;

Stephen son of John and Susannah OVERILL born 17 August 1808;

James son of James BRADFORD and Elizabeth his wife born 29 July 1810;

Emma daughter of John and Susannah OVERILL born 10 January 1811;

Susan daughter of James and Elizabeth BRADFORD born 1 October 1812;

Mary Ann daughter of John (carpenter) and Susannah OVERILL born 16 February 1816;

Sarah daughter of John (carpenter) and Susannah OVERILL born 6 September 1819.

I could find no records of OVERILLs or BRADFORDS in the Saffron Walden St Mary's Church baptism records, the Baptist Church baptism records or the Congregational Church baptism records.

I'm sure this will be a big help in my sorting out these two families. If Susannah Hayden Overill is my 3rg Great Grandmother she was only about 17 years old when she married Joseph Bradford, but she seems to be the only candidate.

The two Bradford children you found are, I think, the children of Joseph's brother, James.  Like Joseph, his family seems to disappear for the 1841 and 1851 census.

So my hunt continues (nothing new for us genealogists), but thank you so much for your help, it's greatly appreciated.

Shaz, forgot to add that the two witnesses at the marriage of Sarah and Joseph were Edward and it could be Warner and Mary BRADFORD.

Thanks for the offer.  I'm pursuing the clue of the name Susannah Hayden Overill b: 1806.

Could you look for a marriage between John Overill and Susannah Hayden?  On the IGI I've found a baptism for Susannah Hayden 8 Aug 1779, Debden, parents George Hayden and Susannah Moore.

Also, and possibly more importantly, could you look at the marriage entry for Joseph Bradford and Susannah Overill on 31 Dec 1823 in Saffron Walden to see if any other details are recorded? I need a clue because I just don't know where to look for Joseph!
