Beatrice May Turner Linton Birth 5th Sept 1901
« on: Wednesday 26 April 06 15:24 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the above.

I have already been lead down the wrong route for the above lady, my great grandmother, and now I suspect that I have found the correct birth and birthplace, that being Linton.

I may well have to shell out anoth 7 pounds for the certificate, but thought I would try here first, as everyone seems to be so helpful and resourceful.

Presumably you know her father's name from her marriage cert. You could put a Reference checking condition on the birth cert request, giving the name of the father. If the birth you have found has a different father the GRO will charge a reduced fee, not £7.

If you know her father's name and think she was born in Linton check with the 1901 census - in fact there was only one Turner family living in Linton - Joel Turner widower, schoolmaster, so he doesn't seem likely to have been the father. (But Linton registration district covers many parishes so of course they may have lived in one of the other parishes)

Regards

David

Didn't know about the reduced fees....that would have saved me some money...never mind.

She gives her father as William Turner on her wedding certificate, occupation of shepherd. Unfortunately it looks as if he did not live in Linton prior to her birth.

A witness was Harriet Olive Hilda Edwards, but I cannot account for her yet!
