India 1870

Looking for any information on a Joseph Mee private 1st Battalion 19th Foot Regiment regarding his time in India.He was born about 1836 in Leicester, married in Nottingham in 1867 his first child was born in Jabalpur West Bengal in1871 Two more children followed one in 1874 and one in 1877 at South Camp Aldershot.What would he have been involved in in India?  Regards Alan

lynmee,it was the turn of his battalion to do garrison duty in india,the 19th are the yorkshire regt,[green howards] it sounds like he was in the 1st battalion,they returned to england in 1871,the 2nd batt didnt return till 1876,mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.

Hi Alan, just found this thread.

There's an account of a Green Howard's voyage to India and his service there, written by Charles Usherwood. He was with the First Battalion. It's in diary form, with original spelling and all.
