Allen Family.

Hello ,

I am looking for help with my Allen branch of my tree.

I have only very limited info but here goes.

John Henry Allen born circa 1911. Berkshire.
His brothers were Frederick and George.

John married a Beatrice Washbrook from Oxford and lived the remainder of his life in that area.
I believe his brothers stayed in the Berkshire.

Are you trying to come forwards to present-day, or backwards in time?

Backwards please, but any info would be great no matter how small. Have a complete brick wall. We are not really sure where John Henry was born apart from Berkshire so if I need to come forward before going back thats fine!

First stage would be to get the marriage certificate of John Henry and Beatrice.

That should give a father,father's occupation and age for the groom.

Then you need to search the original birth indexes for the calculated birth year to find all possible Allen births.

Send off for all, but ask to be issued only with the ones which have a matching father's details. I can see no other way back other than to throw a bit of money at it unfortunately.

Can you narrow it down any more for us.  Do you have any idea where in Berkshire you are talking about?  Do you have any birth dates, even approximate, for the brothers? Were they older or younger?

I believe the two brothers to be older than John Henry but have no idea as to which part of Berkshire.

I will have to do as Pennie suggests and try the marriage route.

We have the two brothers names in our family history.  We also have a Frank Allen who we are researching.  He was brought up by his grandfather on a farm in the Crookham Common area of Newbury.  Hopefully we are talking about the same family.  Would be interested in any more info you may have.

My own interest is very remote as I have William Gray (bapt 29 Mar 1795 Chalvey) who married  Frances Allen 28 Jul 1816 at Upton cum Chalvey.  She was  born c 1795 at  Fifield , Bray, Berks and died Q1 1871.

I realize that there is unlkely to be a link but I thought that it was just worth recording on this thread.
