What do you mean by current? the latest released census is 1901.

Current names you would have to obtain from electoral roll or telephone directories.

And I repeat, with the same respect the latest *released * census is for 1901.

Please explain what you are looking for.

Pauline       If I may draw a parallel, the latest 2000 censusus for my  county shows 3 Rutters.
Basically put, I am still searching for Rutters in Cambridgeshire that might be distant relatives.

A Census is not a public document in the UK until it has been released by the government of the day.

AGAIN:The latest *released * census is for 1901

Just to clarify for waralan,

In Britain there is a closure law that says that census data is "closed" for 100 years, i.e. not available to the public.

in 2001 (or early 2002 ?), the 1901 census was made available; the 1911 census is due to "go public" in 2011.

There is intermittent campaigning to have it released earlier, but so far, no success, so we all have to twiddle our thumbs and bite our nails until 2011
Any UK Census Data included in this post is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Waralan,

Pauline is correct. The 2001 census will not be released with names etc until 2101. All that is released is statistics about households, demographics, religions etc.

If you are wanting information about where people with certain names live then you can use the telephone directory (online at www.bt.com) or the electoral register (www.192.com - but you will need to pay - its free if you are able to make it over to the UK and visit libaries). They are your only choices.

Regards

Paula

Hi all,
Why is it so closed in England?
In the States where it is done every 10 years, the results are open to the public.
In fact, I could go on any number of web sites and find how many Rutters were counted in my county in 2000.  I could even print the form out.
