Burial Records at Mullabrack Co Armagh - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 09:37 BST (UK) »
I am looking for burial of Catherine Lackie/Leckie between 1844 and 1850 possibly at Mullabrack Co Armagh and wondering if anyone has access to burial records for the churchyard cemetery.

Thanks

Hello Carmel,

What denomination was the Lackie/Leckie family? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Church of Ireland graveyards often contained other religions (like Presbyterians) so don't assume a person belong to Church of Ireland just because they are buried in E.C. ground.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for your interest in my query.  :)  This was quite a while ago though and last Oct I discovered that no Leckie family was in Mullaghbrack Armagh but there is a townland Mullaghbrack a little further east in Co Down just east of the Newry Canal and the Leckie family were there so I've shifted my search to Co Down.
Regards, Carmel
