Reverand John Harris, Newfoundland
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 14:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to records in St. John's, Newfoundland, regarding a Reverend John HARRIS, his wife Phoebe and their children. He is said to have been the garrison minister about 1810. I understand that HARRIS died in St. John's. From what I know, they immigrated from Somerset, England, date unkown. His daughter, Sarah, eventually married my 2xG grandfather, Joseph Harper, back in Long Ashton, Somerset after the remaineder for the family returned to England.

Thank you,

Mike

This year we find the Rev. John Harris zealously engaged in forwarding the erection of a new church at St. John's, the first one having been erected in 1790.

Jorose,

Thank you for that. Is there anything to show a daughter, Sarah? She was my Gx2 Grandmother. I searched the sites that you listed, to no avail. I have contacted the Newfoundland Historical Society and am still awaitng a reply.
Thank you, kindly, for your input.

J.J.

A lot of great documents there. Very helpful in determining who my great (X3) grandfather was. I have seen the info on Joseph Harper's resting spot. That Joseph Harper in actually the grandson of Harris. His father, Joseph, married one of Harris's daughters. I feel confident that it was Sarah but don't know how or when she got back to England. I will, however, make the 45 minute drive up to Mississauga to check out the cemetery.
Thanks again,
