Samuel TAYLOR
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 22:43 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful if anybody from the Benington area could give me any info regarding an address given on the 1841 census - ref H0107/436/5 under the name Samuel Taylor (my ggg-grandfather).  It is listed as Curtin Hill and I would be interested to find out about its history.  Also if there happens to be anyone related to the Taylor's from Benington, I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks in advance
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Welcome to  Rootschat and Hertfordshire.

The area you refer to is included on the present OS map as Cutting  Hill just over a mile from Bennington on the Wheampstead Road.   The street map of the area shows a Cutting Hill Farm.  The 1851 census records Thomas (47) and Susan (37) Taylor with their daughter Mary (11) living at Cutting Hill.

Hope these details will help with your research.

Regards   ...   Peter

Thanks for your reply.

I did think that Cutting Hill was likely to be the correct area.  Unfortunately the Taylors on the 1851 census are not mine, although I do have a Thomas and Susan but they mine were only children in 1851. Mine had moved area by that time as I have traced them to Lincolnshire.

The birth areas given on the census do vary, but Ann (wife of Samuel) and three of their children seem to have been born in Benington.

Regards
Cheryl
