I believe that some have used one ID for their own research and another for answering others queries.

but why?, surely it would be just as easy to answer and ask with the same alias.

Don't forget that a person can pretend to be whoever/whatever they want on the net.  I hope to think that most of us are all an honest bunch but I think we would be naive to think that there aren't a few on here that aren't completely honest.  ???

Hells Bells :o  I have enough trouble keeping up with one let alone multiples ::)  I simply cannot see what one would acheive by being more than one person

Suey, naughty or silly people with nothing better do with their lives.  For example a person could be as rude and offensive as they liked and then change their user name through a different E-Mail address and be a complete new rootschatter.  I'm not sure what kicks these silly people get from this.  Although, as Pauline pointed out there are genuine people who use more than one profile to enable them to research and sort out queries more effectively.

If I had more than one user name I would become very confused (it really doesn't take much!)

Well, I'm just me. I still can't see why people would even want two different profiles for helping and for asking  ??? I can understand if you are a mod but not just ordinary chatters.

It is possible for the mod/admin people to tell by the computer address.

So how many people are there really on RC - 30700, 25000, 10000 - 200  ??? ??? ???

Oh dear.  It never would have occurred to me to have more than one profile here!  Like others who have posted, one is as much as I can manage anyway!!  ::) ::)

Someone else posted a warning somewhere about hackers being on here.  I don't know how he/she knows this, but I found it a little worrying.  But then, as wheeldon says, we can't assume that all of us are honest!!  :o

Gadget - good question, I wonder how many of us there are really!
