Hi

IGI has a marriage for George Full and Susan Paige, 14 Aug 1836, Modbury Devon (Batch no. M051461)

In 1841 there is a George Full, b. approx 1811, married to a Susan, who might be the ones.
(I confess that on a map Ugborough seems quite a way from Townstall/Dartmouth,
but this is the only George Full b. 1809 +/- 10 in Devonshire and he could well be the wrong one)

1841 HO107/218/17/14/23
Ugborough Village, (Ermington Hundred), Devonshire
George Full, 30, blacksmith, yes
Susan Full, 25, yes
Mary Full, 5, yes
Nichs Full, 2, yes

Perhaps George's mother:

1841 HO107/213/8/7/10
Silver Street, Townstal, (Coleridge Hundred) Dartmouth
Elizabeth Full, 66, Ind, yes
William Wallace, 23, shipwright, yes  (next household, same house)

1851 HO107/1878/180/55
St Andrews,  Plymouth, Devonshire
George Full, head, 42, blacksmith, b. Ugborough, Devon
Susan Full, 36, b. Modbury, Devon
Mary Ann Full, dau,14, servant, b. Modbury
George Full, son, 12, errand boy, b. Ugborough
Susan Full, dau, 8, scholar, b. Ugborough
Louisa Full, dau, 5, scholar, b. Ugborough
Caroline Full, dau, 3, scholar, b. Ugborough

(On FreeBMD, there is a marriage and a death for a Nicholas George Full, cf. above)

Koromo, thank you for the information you have given. Although George was born in Townstal, Dartmouth I suppose he could give Ugborough as his place of birth. Elizabeth FULL is the correct entry for the 1841 Census. Could you please tell me the meaning of (Colleridge Hundred) and (Ermington Hundred).

Hi Yogi

On the 1841 census, each county is broken up into smaller areas called Hundreds, the names of which often don't seem to bear any relationship to anything! In some counties it's quite useful to know what Hundred a town/parish was in, so a search can be made on a group of villages rather than the whole county, eg. Buckinghamshire only has six Hundreds and nearly all my Bucks ancestors can be found in just one of them so makes it easy to track their movement between neighbouring villages. Devonshire has 32 Hundreds so they may not be so useful. This term was dropped from the censuses after 1841.

GenUKI's list of the Devonshire Hundreds is here.

Cheers

Koromo, many thanks again for explaining the "hundreds"
