Among my Scottish/Cape Breton ancestors are both MacDonalds and Campbells.

You might find a couple of books useful.

A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation by Donald Whyte published by the Ontario Genealogical Society.  This one is widely available in libraries. Try WorldCat to find a library near you.

Mabou Pioneers by A.D. MacDonald. Privately published. You can order this on-line from Cape Breton Island bookstores. If you have family from the area around Mabou this is an essential resource. There are a number of Campbell families listed there.

theres two mary campbells on north uist (mother and daughter) along with two donalds in same family - eldest mary was boirn 1781 and youngest was born 1821....doed this help?
