ASTLE Chirk
« on: Friday 05 May 06 09:57 BST (UK) »
Is anyone out there researching the Astles from Chirk? Their ancestors were originally from Aldford, Cheshire. My Great Grandmother was Louisa Astle, married Benjamin Roberts. Louisa's parents were William Astle (born about 1858) and Sarah JAMES (born about 1861).

Stephen Charles.

Hello Stephen

Welcome to Rc Denbighshire!

I was originally from Chirk, as were my parents and grandparents. I do remember my mother mentioning the Astles butcan't remember the context.
I would be interested in any info about your Benjamin Roberts.

Ben was my Dad's maternal Grandfather. He was the son of John Robert b1845 of Gwyddelwern and Catherine Jones b1843 of Bryneglwys. In 1891 they lived at 3 Fronhaul Cottage, Llandynan.

I am not sure that I can help you but you might be able to help me!  I have a 1911 census entry for Wern Cottage, Chirk.  It shows:

Samuel Astle (51) head
Thomas Astle (33) brother
Catherine Astle (24) sister in law
Robert Francis Astle (15) nephew

Do you know anything about Catherine?  Was she called Catherine Richards before marriage?  I realise that 6 years has passed since you posted your question and that this is a long-shot, but you never know.

Malcolm

Well Malcolm they were given as two years married and there was a probable marriage for a Thomas Astle and a Catherine Richards in the Oswestry District in 1909.

Thanks William. That is useful information about Fardoe.  It norrows down the chances of my finding a marriage.  The problem is that I don't even know if she married.  I might end up sending for the certificate anyway.
