Ellis and Mary married in the Parish Church, Ruabon. I think it is St Mary's. You could check on Genuki.

The info that you found in the IGI (via PM) suggests that Edward and Anne might have either been married before 1816 (the same batch has them having a child baptised at 'independant', Rhosllanerchrugog in 1816) or co-habiting. As it says Edward Phillips and Anne Jones there is no way of telling. I also found a daughter Margaret bpt in Ruabon Parish Church to Edward and Anne Phillips , Dec 25 1821

However, I can't find Ellis and Mary in 1851 or 1861, do you have the reference. This is why I was checking about the Enoch. I don't want to spend time going down the wrong line  :-\

Found them now. I notice that they had an Anne(7) and Mary (3) both born Penycae. It might be worth my PMing wrjones if he's not seen this thread. he might have some more ideas about the birth records of the children.

I'll continue with the parents  :)

I looked up the 1837 BMD index I cannot find Ellis Phillips =m= to Mary Hughes  but found info on northWales bmd they give Rhuabon , St mary's but I don't have page and vol.
but there is a Mary Hughes 4th Qtr 1839 Wrexham.

Hi

I'm not surprised you didn't find him. He's down as Ellis PHILIPPS - 4quarter, 1839, Wrexham, vol 27, page 391  :)

Well we are kind of cousins-in-law and if you can't help family.............. ;)

There are a few Edward Phillips born Morton Above  -1794, 1780, etc. Problem is, if they went non-conformist, as they obviously did, the records get a bit tricky  :-\

Hi again

Been chattering to big sister for a while. I shall look things up over the weekend - it's going to rain on Sunday  ;) - I think I might be able to get back another generation if Edward and Anne were married in Ruabon parish. The IGI is not very good for this area. You were lucky to get the Independant records. I had Ellis b. Feb 1820 bpt April 1820.

Be in touch but maybe Sunday.
