Middle Names
« on: Saturday 06 May 06 13:58 BST (UK) »
This on the lighter side of searching my family tree. I notice the name Benjamin Adair Davidson popping up. The first mention of the middle name Adair appears in 1867. I thought it might be a mothers maiden name. But the name keeps appearing generation after generation. I think there is more of a meaning. My grandfather was a Benjamin Adair and so was my uncle and I also notice, I think distant relatives with Benjamin Adair in Ireland
So if there is anyone that has an idea, please let me know.

Middle names can be very stange things. Sometimes simply by tracking back you can find a marriage where it came from. Other times they go on for a hundred years with no indication of their origin. For many years my own ancestors were fond of "Liberty", which first appeared in the family just after the French Revolution. A declaration of approval. Always a radical lot my ancestors.
At one time I worked with someone whose middle name was the name of the warship his father had drowned on!
