1901 info needed
« on: Monday 18 October 04 03:44 BST (UK) »
There is a John Burton married to an Elizabeth with sons in 1881 listed as alfred john, sidney, and albert. They lived in Kent, Tenterden area. John born egerton, children born in tenterden and woodchurch that I know of. I know John is listed in 1901 census but cannot access it. Alfred John supposedly had 7 brothers, but I only know of two. I would kindly appreciate any help I can get. Alfred John would be my great grandfather.

here is a possible for Elizabeth's background

here is a possible marriage for elizabeth and john
Marriages Jun 1872
~~~~~~~~
Burton  John    Cranbrook  2a 949
Crouch  Elizabeth     Cranbrook  2a 949
then on 1871 census
here is the same elizabeth
Cranbrook Kent
RG10/949 folio 64 page 15
Amos Crouch 10  Cranbrook, Kent, England Son
Andrew Crouch 7  Cranbrook, Kent, England Son
Elizabeth Crouch 23  Cranbrook, Kent, England Daughter  occ: housekeeper
Samuel Crouch 45  Rainham, Kent, England Head  widow
Samuel J Crouch 21  Cranbrook, Kent, England Son  occ: ag lab
Stephen Crouch 18  Cranbrook, Kent, England Son occ: ag lab out of employ
address: Crane Lane
so will need to confirm, the marriage certificate of John and Elizabeth would states the father's names and occupations.
An 1861 Kent Census look up may give Elizabeth's mother's name as there is a son born after 1861 so mother only recently died. A person on this site has kent 1861 so will be able to help.
on 1871 John Burton is a servant - no family details, perhaps an 1861 census look up. he is in Frittenden in 1871.
good luck
thank you so very much. Any tidbits at all are more than I had. Seems that when Alfred John left Kent for Canada, he severed ties. Nobody had anything on his siblings or anything more than his parents name and date of death logged in a Bible. I am trying to piece something together. Again, thank you.
Hmmmm... 1871 census on Samuel Crouch has him a widower, but a family member says in 1881 he is listed with his wife. I do not think she was resurrected, so maybe some sort of seperation? I am not sure about this.
Hi Vicki
here is alfred in 1901
Brenchley  Kent
RG13/760 folio 23 page 13
Alfred Burton 28  Tenterden, Kent, England Head     occ: argicultural labrouer
Margaret Burton 25  High Halden, Kent, England Wife
address is 11 Castle Hill
there is this entry in freebmd.org
Marriages Mar 1872
~~~~~~~~
CROUCH  Samuel    Cranbrook  2a 728
Walter  Elizabeth     Cranbrook  2a 728

so that may explain why he is married in 1881 - it is his second wife.
