Myfanwy 'who?'
« on: Monday 08 May 06 12:10 BST (UK) »
A photo of a 'Myfi, Bangor'  and date of death written May2nd 1961.

Not sure if i'm going down the shortest route to find her surname---??

I looked up Myfanwy Evans & Hughes, my direct lines, no death for that date so i tried Jones as i think that might be a possible and came up with a Myfanwy Jones registered in Wrexham with correct date of death age 60.

Then, working backward she would have been born in 1901 so i looked again at EVANS,HUGHES & JONES for births and came up with a possible assortment of 8 births for her one of which was Myfanwy Hughes,  Bangor. July/Aug/Sep 1901 11b 434.

Would it make more sense to send off for a cert for this Bangor one first. or is there any other way i could find out her surname. At least i need to find out her 1st surname to finally see if she married or not.

Suggestions welcome from Poli. :)

you could contact the Crematorium at Bangor (who hold all burial details for the area, not just cremations, and not just Bangor) - sorry I don't have the details myself, but you could google them.

As you have the exact date, it shouldn't be a problem for them to let you know. I've heard they are helpful!

Hello D ap D

"you could contact the Crematorium at Bangor."

Do you think they would give out details over the phone though?

I've a death cert from 10 years ago and it does give a maiden name and a husband's name. This would be very useful for Myfanwy. Not sure what information certs from 1901 would hold though, however, i can but try!!

Thanks for the idea.

I notice that you have JONES from Denbighshire too?

Poli.

Hi Poli
Do you have any Myfanwys in your tree. If not, this one could have been a friend of the family or someone who has married in. I think I would hold back on the cert until I'd investigated the known relatives and their possible marriage partners first.

Other questions: was the photo taken of Myfanwy in Bangor at some time before May 1961? If so, it could well be the same Myfi  who died Wrexham,as I know you had ancestors in that RD.

Is it possible that the Myfanwy Hughes is one of your relative?

Hi Gadget, I've actually sent off for a death cert for Myfanwy only a few days ago. The pic looks like it was taken when she was  a young woman, possibly early 1900-20 ish. i chose a Wrexham reg. as that seems the most likely. I'll let you know what the result is :)

Liverpool lass. they get everywhere these Myfanwys, don't they ;)

Yogibear, i don't have any Griffiths in the family that i know of yet but new [old]! relatives are appearing out of the woodwork so you never know. No connection with Bersham as far as i know.

Hi Poli

Just noticed that your original posting was back in May when I was on holiday.

Not sure how much info you'll get from the death cert. but if it looks interesting it might be worth trying to find an obituary/death notice in the Wrexham Leader for around that date. This, if you're lucky, will give some family details and names. Most deaths/funerals in the area seem to have been reported in the time period that we're talking about.

Probably the best way to go is via the A N Palmer Centre for Local Studies in Wrexham:

http://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/heritage/archives/index.htm

worth contacting them to see what they have.
