Douglas family ancestors.
« on: Monday 08 May 06 19:55 BST (UK) »
Trying to find details of William Douglas, born circa 1800, married to Jane Walton?, father of Jane Douglas, who was born in Colvend/Southwick, Kirkcudbrightshire, circa 1820. Jane had an illegitimate son, Samuel, in 1844, who was born in Colvend.

Any help greatly appreciated. The brick wall situation has been with me for almost a year.

Ian Douglas

Hi Ian

I think William Douglas may have been born earlier than you think. This looks like grandson Samuel living with his grandmother Jane, a widow, in the 1851 census:

DOUGLAS Henriatta, daughter of Jane Douglas, unmarried, SERVANT farm, age 45, born Colvend Kbt
DOUGLAS Jane, head of household, widow, PAUPER (former farm servant), age 75,
born Mouswald Dms
DOUGLAS Janet, grand daughter of Jane Douglas, age 9, born Colvent Kbt
DOUGLAS Samuel, grandson of Jane Douglas, age 5, born Colvend Kbt
THOMSON Jane, grand daughter of Jane Douglas, MAID house, age 17, born Colvent Kbt

Address: Borland Kiln(861)
Parish: Colvend
Household No: 4/32

Regards.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for your email.

Have checked back through my previous searches, and have confirmed that this is another Douglas family in Colvend, which I have already considered and realised are not my ancestors. Ages do not link through to further generations.

Thanks very much for your efforts - much appreciated.

Best regards,

Ian
