Hi all

I know that my GGrandfather was born in approx 1855 (as a result of census returns and certificates) in the Greasley area of Nottingham. I know that his father was John Naylor who was a coal miner.

I've searched on ancestry and free bmd for a birth entry without success. Fellow listers on the Nottingham RootsGen mailing list have located the baptism of a James Doyle Naylor on 27 March 1855 at Greasley, he being the son of John and Barbara Naylor. Similarly I cannot find any other trace of James Doyle Naylor.

Are James Dial and James Doyle the same person? There doesn't seem to be any other James Naylor born in that time period in Greasley.

Can anyone find the birth entry?

Matt
Naylor - Greasley, Nottinghamshire; Watts - Sheffield

Matt, neither Ancestry or FreeBMD are fully transcribed as yet, but you can trawl the images for free on Ancestry. It just requires a little patience :)

Another spelling variation for you!

Registered Sept 1855 Basford 7b 75
James Dile Nailor

btw the baptism was 23 July 1855

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

I spent ages searching through the images last night, 5 years either side of 1855 on Ancestry until my eyes started to bleed  :-X

It never even occurred to me to check alternate spellings  ::)

Mind you that one you found looks a good candidate Heather  ;D
