Richard Badcock 1796 Abingdon
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 11:24 BST (UK) »
Trying to discover the parents of Richard Badcock born about 1796 Abingdon, a Draper and apparently later bacame the Mayor.

I have many other Badcocks in the area and having come across Richard am trying to place him...

He was married but I dont know who to so may be difficult to find a marriage.

Has anyone access to the Parish registers to look up his birth?

Thanks,
Tan

Hi Tan, ;D

there is a submitted record on the IGI for a Richard Badcock born c1795 Berkshire . You would need to verify this as records that are submitted, rather than taken from the parish records, can be inaccurate.

Birth: 1795   Richard Badcock
Christening: 3rd September 1795  Shrivenham  Berkshire
Parents: Joses Badcock & Mary Badcocke
Marriage: Edith,1823 Berkshire

Here is the above Richard Badcock on the 1841 census

Hi

From the register transcripts for St Helens Abingdon

Richard Badcock was buried 24th December 1845 - of Shippon Road Cott. - draper & governor of Christs Hospital aged 51

Edith Badcock aged 35 buried 16th July 1833

I couldn't see their marriage but they had (from St Helens Abingdon)

1819 Joses s/o Richard & Edith (mercer)
1821 Christian - died 1827
1822 Richard
1823 James
1825 Paul
1826 Elizabeth - died 1829
1829 John
1831 George Alfred
1833 Edith - died 1848

I don't know where the rest of the children were in 1841 but the son Richard who was also a draper was back there with wife Charlotte (and various other members of family) in 1851

Hope it helps

I have one Badcock in my Berkshire wills index - not sure if it is of any use:
Badcock, Thomas
  •    St Ebbe, Oxford   cabinet maker   1777   bondsman      Jacob Wheeler (w&a)   ADB
Bazalgette, but mainly not FH information.
Has written a biography of Jean Louis Bazalgette - "Prinny's Taylor"

Hi,
No Richard Badcock in St. Helens for your dates and no Badcocks in St. Nicholas.
