John Wilmot's marriage
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 18:16 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Does anyone have access to the records of St Edward, Cambridge?
There is a marriage, 7 June 1789, between Ann Miller, probably otp and John Wilmot, where was he from?
Thank you,
Enrique

Hi Enrique

Phillimore's Marriages does not show a parish so the assumption is that he was  otp, as was Ann (other marriages in the same year quote a parish if other than otp)

Regards

David

Hi David, An afterthought, perhaps it would be good to look at the parish records, anyway. My problem is that those microfiches are very expensive.
Regarding my previous question (the marriage of Mary Cowell and John Wilmot) I have further complications: I was able to view the microfiche for Haslingfield and it states: July 30 1804, Wilmott John OF ST EDWARD, CAMBRIDGE, bac & Mary Cowell(x) otp sp.
Therefore I need to see if there was a birth for John Wilmott on St Edward circa 1780's.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Enrique

Hi Enrique

Checking parish registers is never a bad idea as you can find detail that is missing from a transcription. Unfortunately Cambridge St Edward baptisms are not on the IGI - and it seems that parish registers for baptisms prior to 1796 are missing although the Bishops Transcripts have survived, albeit with some missing years.

Why not see if Keith Sherwood will have a look in the records when he next ambles up the hill to Cambridge Record Office? Just post your request on the Cambridgeshire Lookup Offers board on his thread "My Visit to Cambridgeshire County Records Office..."

Regards

David
