Minnie as a female name

Anyone any ideas as to what this may be short for?

I have an Amy, Jessie, Mary, Kate , Ethel and Eva to choose from!!  Unless of course Minnie is another!

No Wilhelmina in the family, then 

My grandmother was called Minnie, but her real name was Minna,
but she was austrian, so it's probably different rules there !

It could also be Minerva, or Minnie may have been a 2nd Christian name which she preferred to her 1st name ?  Poli

There was a Minnie Bacon, Belper  1872-1889, in my tree, so i suppose it must have been a recognized name.

if you look at Ancestry or Free BMD birth registrations you will find 170,001 Minnies between 1837 and 1983 (or as far as Free BMD goes up to at least)

My mother in laws name is Minnie, its not short for anything else. Her full name is Minnie Beatrice, she hates Minnie and calls herself Bea.

My great aunt was called Minnie and her real name was infact Mary, while the other one's real name was Margaret.

Both aunts where Irish if that helps at all.

Hello:

Just to confirm that Minnie is  a proper first name. That is my mum's name.  In fact I have just returned home from taking her out for a mother's day brunch.....
