Cos Rachel didn't have her findings confirmed until this afternoon ........ when she e.mailed me !

I have not been available to help her for the last few weeks .....
I have always directed people to these boards, and others, when asking for help, because there are so many helpful, knowledgable people willing and able to help.

Elaine ;-)

HO107 2218 folio 441
Fant Urmston  Lancashire
James Shawcross 54  Stretford, Lancashire,  Head Married Farmer 36 acres
Mary Shawcross 50  Urmston, Lancashire, Wife  Married
Helen Shawcross 30  Urmston, Lancashire,  Daughter Employed at home
Elizabeth Shawcross 28  Urmston, Lancashire, Daughter  Employed at home
Matthew Shawcross 23  Urmston, Lancashire,  Son Employed on the farm
James Shawcross 19  Urmston, Lancashire,  Son  Draper
John Shawcross 16  Urmston, Lancashire,  Son  Grocer
Amos Shawcross 13  Urmston, Lancashire,  Son
David Shawcross 11 Urmston, Lancashire,  Son
Isaac Shawcross 10 Urmston, Lancashire,  Son

I may have a distant indirect link to this family.  During my research today, I come across a Matthew Shawcross on the 1861 census in Urmston.  He's a 31 year old farm labourer, born in Urmston.  His wife Mary, two kids (Charles and Hannah) and father-in-law, William Wood are all with him.  Could this be the above Matthew?

I'll research any family I come across :)  I've been skipping sideways through marriages for the last year or so now.  I enjoy making the connections and hey, I might as well put my Ancestry sub to good use :)

After looking at other censuses, the Matthew I have appears to be the other one.  My guess is there's a link between them somewhere though, especially as they appear on the same page in 1871.
