So close, but yet so far
« on: Monday 15 May 06 17:29 BST (UK) »
I have a picture a two little girls from about 1890, on the back is written "give this to my grandma Huck, Otillia Schied".

I know my gr-gr-grandmother's maiden name is Huck, she lived in Ontario, Canada.  The picture of the little girls is taken in Rochester, New York.  I do have family that went to Rochester.  I thought if I could figure out who this little girl belonged to, it might open up more research.

So, the other day I was searching for a brother of my gr-gr grandmother and found an entry for him in Ancestry's One World Tree.  I was looking through the stuff and came across Susana Otillia Schied from Rochester.  I was so excited, her mother was Josephine Huck who is my gr-gr-grandmother's sister.

But, the person who put their tree on Ancestry's site, did not put any contact information.  Why would you go to that trouble and then not want to be contacted?

So close, but yet so far.. :(

Hi Karen,

Oh what a shame  :-\  You must feel gutted, I know I would.

Is there no way Ancestry can help?

Hi Dolly,

I did phone them and see and the girl said there was nothing they could do, but understood my frustration because the same thing happened with a line in her family.  She couldn't figure out whey you wouldn't put a contact name down.

I have posted a message on quite a few of the rootsweb message boards with the other surnames they had in their tree, so I can only hope they check those and will get in contact with me.

I have had this picture for 20 years, searched census, ordered possible marriage certificates.  I can at least carry on knowing who she is exactly, but just wanted to share the picture I had of her and perhaps they may know who my other pictures are.  I also have a picture of "grandma Huck" who died in 1893, she was born c1811 that they might like a copy for their collection as well.

Great News,

I received a reply to one of my messages, their 3rd cousin is the daughter of Tillie's (Otillia) goddaughter and gave me her number to call her.  She remembers Tillie quite well.

Never give up  :)

Can't wait till tommorrow so I can call her.

Hi Marie,

I called her and would you believe it's not the same person??  Who knew their could be 2 Tillie Schied's living in Rochester, New York.  The lady I spoke with was a sister at the church and she sat there on the phone going through all the books trying to see if we could find a connection, but nothing  :(

Oh well, will keep waiting.
