Elands in Lyth - help on deaths
« on: Monday 15 May 06 18:56 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the deaths of Sarah and Jane Eland, both born in Lythe and living there until at least 1851.

They do not appear in the 1861 census.  They were both born in around the 1780s.

I can find no deaths on freebmd however i have found Sarah and Jane England deaths in Whitby region between 1851 and 1861.

Is it reasonable to assume these are my people and the name was misheard/transcribed (the register index also shows England)

unfortunately the yorkshire bmd site has not yet got these registers indexed so i have no fall back check.

Opinions/help please!!!!

thanks

Sue

Hi Sue

Its a possibility but I don't think I would assume its the case without some more evidence.

I will check to see if they are mentioned in the monumental inscriptions for Lyth when I get chance.

Best wishes

thanks Ticker.

I have looked on IGI but had no luck, and the parish registers on ancestry aren't much help either (not recent enough!)

They were on poor relief in 1851 so may not have warrented headstones....

Hi Sue

I visited Scarborough Library today and unfortunately they did not have the Lythe MIs available.  I'll keep this on my list.

Best wishes
