Hullo
Does anyone know why William Kingston and Harriet (nee Ashby) of Chisbury, Wiltshire and Ufton, Warwickshire respectively, would change their name to Kingston-Miles?  They were born around 1814 and 1831 and moved to Willesden, Pimlico, Plaistow and Walthamstow, having various children along the way, including Frances Ellen in 1859 and Stephen in 1864.  By the 1870's they are called Kingston-Miles and from then on the families were either Kingston-Miles, Miles-Kingston or just Miles!
Help please!

Does the name Miles appear anywhere else in your tree? ie, further back, parents/grandparents maiden names, uncles/aunts etc...... I had a similar problem and it was suggested to me that the name could have been added as a condition of receiving an inheritance, maybe to " carry on the name" that would have otherwise died out..... something for you to look into anyway.....

Regards

Thank you Catherine. I have looked into this without success but it could still show up somewhere.
