William's residence is given as Gipsy Castle, near Dowlais. The first word has originally been written as Gipsey, and then the "e" crossed out, and above that are what I had assumed to be the initials IG in a circle, signifying an amendment, but I suppose it could also be the number 19!

Sarah Jane's address, as expected, is the Royal Arms, Pantywaun.

This one is very confusing.
Llechryd is near Rhymney  Pantywaun and Princetown
So we have the locations in the neighbouring border areas of Brecs, Mon and Glam .

Interesting Rhys - now all we need is a marriage of widowed Ann to her brother-in-law...  ;D

OK I decided I had to walk up & down the streets on the basis that they have to be there somewhere.

Richard ASHTON is the THOMAS family's next door neighbour in 1891 Pantywaun. He is a stationary engine driver, 27 married with children.

Oh, boys! I have BMD'd three William Henry Griffithses being born in Merthyr at about the right time, and one in Crickhowell, after searching under Breconshire. Think I'm on to something?

Hi
As you have William on two census returns born Brecs,
and his siblings were born in the county i think i
would plump for Crickhowell district

Hi, Rhys, think I might be inclined to agree with you. You know from our past correspondence that I'm always (rightly) wary of making the available facts fit the story, but the more I think about it the more everything seems to fit here:

We have a father with the right name and occupation who disappears from the household between 1891 and 1901.....and is replaced, by an older model!

Llechryd, although it appears in 1891 under Breconshire, has certainly always counted as Rhymney in my book; certainly, I know from many personal experiences (mostly late at night and worse for wear!) that it, Tafarnaubach, Princetown and Pantywaun all are/were within about a 45 minute walk of each other.

We have a sister and mother called Anne, each of whom  could have been the witness at William's wedding.

William junior is not with the rest of the family on the 1901 census, BUT THEY are ALL in Pantywaun.

QED...........or am I being overly optimistic?!!!??! If not, da iawn, boy bach!!!!!
