How lucky we are!
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 19:11 BST (UK) »
Yesterday, in frantic pusuit of my grandmother's line, I posted a request on another genealogy group for a census look-up.  I felt that I had imposed enough on Rootschatters for the time being.  Today I got a personal email from someone in that group, the most patronising message I have ever had.  She pointed out the benefits of a subscription to Ancestry, how useful it would be to me, and I wouldn't have to ask other people.
Makes you glad to have found Rootschat, doesn't it.  :-\

I have ancestry too and often post here for help.

What I mean is although I have access to records it doesn't mean I can necessarily find what I want!! People on Rootschat are so helpful and more experienced than me they often find information I am struggling with or point me in a direction I hadn't thought of!

I do try to reciprocate whenever I can and offer help/lookups to others......... I feel it's my way of "paying" for the help I receive. (And of course I have the bug and love looking at family records - hubby say I'm just nosy!!)

So thanks to everyone who has helped me in the past!! I agree Rootschat Rocks!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I couldn't agree more Rose...

If only having Ancestry meant that I could find all my missing souls...... :o :o :o

Only for the folks here I would be totally bald.. tearing my hair out in frustration lol... ::) ::) ::)

I too adore looking for others, and obviously your  hubby and mine must compare notes... I too get told that its because I cannot help but be nosy... and I actually find that when I have found something for another rootschatter I get such a buzz its nearly as good as having a success on my own tree...

so like Rose I would like to throw bouquet's to all those who have prevented me from losing my hair...

Thanks one and all... and also thanks for being such a nice bunch too... ;D ;D ;D

Best wishes

What a meanie to send suttontrust a message like that. I've found rooschatters very helpful in look-ups etc and for directing me to obscure web sites that I probably would not have found.  One kind soul  ,who lives in an area I am trying to reseach, even went out and took photos for me of two "ancestral homes". That was really kind and helped me put some more "meat on the bones" of my rellies.

Well done rootschatters!

I have had so much help from Rootschatters - far more than I have been able to give in return (so far!)  Only one Rootschatter has ever sent me a nasty personal message.

If only it were.  It's my experience the transcriptions are so deranged though that it's even more difficult finding the people you want.
It would help on there if, for a start, they'd work out what a little "m" means after a number in the age column...irritates me the amount of times I've seen 11month entered as 11years.

I agree, Rootschat is wonderful!!!

I've had so much help, and have in turn tried to help others as much as I can.  No cross words!

I don't think I'd even bother with other forums - I keep hearing about experiences like suttontrust's, which aren't very nice at all.  And suttontrust might ask for lookups, but I have seen her giving a lot of help on the boards, also!!

Rootschat is all about giving what you can, and receiving what you need, in an atmosphere of friendship.  Three cheers for Rootschat!!!  ;D
