Slater of Skye?
« on: Wednesday 17 May 06 09:34 BST (UK) »
I have found an ancestor of mine Robert Slater who lived and was buried in Danby Yorkshire 1780 next to his name is, I presume, his birthplace which says "Hold Syke". I am also assuming that Skye has just been misspelt.

Can anyone help me on this - is/was there a place called Hold in Skye and has anyone heard of the Slaters from there.  I have no further info about him apart from his son was William but born in Danby and that most of his descendants were miners.
