Looking for George Warren in 1840?
« on: Wednesday 17 May 06 18:40 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I would like to find a George Warren born 1840 at Stour Provost Dorset his father could be James Warren born about 1807 again Stour Provost Dorset. It would be great if we could find them on 1841 or 1851 census.
Many thanks Dan Tay.

Hi Dan,

The 1841 does not give place of birth, so you can only go on where they are living.

The only Warrens in Stour Provost in 1841 are:

Mary (b. 1776)
John (1801)
George (1821)
Charles (1827).

The only baby George, with father James, elsewhere in Dorset is:

George Warren, 5 months, father James, mother Ann, siblings John and Joseph living in Bridport.

In 1851 the only Warrens in Stour Provost are a Samuel Warren and wife Ann, 2 kids, all born Stour Provost.

Then there's this one in Todbere:

HO107/1851/484/4
Todbere, Dorset
James Warren, 40, Ag Lab, b. Stour Provost
Hester, Wife, 41, b. Marnhull Dorset
Mary Ann, Daur, 17, b. Stour Provost - edit: forgot her the first time - sorry!
George, Son, 12, b. Todbere
Enos, Son, 10, b. "
James, Son, 8, b. "
Emma, Daur, 1, b. "

In 1841 this family has George as being a bit older, which is why I didn't find them on my first check for George in the 1841:

HO107/293/18/4/2
Todbere, Dorset
James Warren, 30, Ag Lab
Hester, 30
Maryann, 7
George, 4
Anna, 5 months

Let me know if you would like full refs for any of the other families mentioned.

Hi Dan,

1861
RG9/1328/83/3
Todbere Corner, Todbere, Dorset
James Warren, Head, 50, Ag lab, b. Stour Provost
Hester Warren, Wife, 56, Home duties, b. Marnhull
George Warren, Son, 22, Ag lab, b. Todbere
Enos Warren, Son, 20, Ag lab, b. Todbere
James Warrenm Son, 17, Quarry lab, b. Todbere
Emma Warren, Daur, 11, Scholar, b. Todbere

1871
RG10/1971/86/6
Todber, Dorset
James Warren, Head, 64, Ag Lab, b. Stour Provost
Hester Warren, Wife, 66, b. Marnhull
George Warren, Son, unm, 30, Ag Lab, b. Todber
Emma Warren, Daur, unm, 22, Glover, b. Todber

Also in 1871, Enos, Ag Lab, is married to a Caroline (35, born Marnhull) with kids Matilda (6), Henry (4), Eva (2) and Emily (3 months) - first 3 kids born Marnhull, Emily in Todber.  RG10/1971/85/4

James is also living in Todber with his wife Maria (29, born Hower) and 2 lodgers - a widow and an unmarried woman both in their 50s.  RG10/1971/84/2

And I just realized that I left Mary Ann off the 1851 entry!  I will edit my previous post and put her in there.  I can't seem to pinpoint a marriage for her, so I don't know where she is after 1851.

Hope that helps!
