Pwllheli or Festiniog ??

I'm trying to trace the parentage of LOWRY JONES b c 1840 Gyfflyliog Denbighshire

In the 1901 registration sub districts lists the registration area for Gyfflliog is Ruthin.

When i looked for Lowry's birth in the BMD i found 4 possibles. However, the registration districts for these 4 were  Pwllheli and Festiniog.

Could the registration district for Gyffylliog in 1840 differ from 1901?

I know bounderies change from time to time. Poli

P.s just re-looked at my 1841 and 1851 cencss for Lowry and have only now noticed that she is down as HUGHES in 1841 and JONES in 1851!!!

Went back to BMD and found one only Lowry Hughes 1840

registration district Ruthin. THIS must be the one!!!

The simple answer to this is that it is neither.Gyffeiliog has always been to my knowledge part of Denbighshire.It looks as if your Lowry was born before his Parents were married, and afterwards assumed the Jones name.

It would look like your suggestion that Lowry was born before a marriage could be correct.I looked for Lowry HUGHES this time in the BMD and the entry is written down as Lowry Jones Hughes.

Well at least it looks as if the parents did the right thing!! Poli
