Hello chaps!

Am trying to locate birth records for my great-grandmother, Harriet Hunt, who I believe was born in Finmere circa 1857. The only two likely options I can find are in Wantage and Chipping Norton in the June quarter of 1856. Can anyone tell me if Finmere would have been included in either of these districts? Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm not too familiar with that part of the world.

Hello Mike -

You need the Finmere parish records - the Oxfordshire FHS has transcribed them - see CDs on www.ofhs.org.uk .

For a parish map, you might also like to look at http://searches.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/pardata.html

Courtesy of OFHS - the baptism is
25 Jan 1857
Harriett d William & Charlotte, lab

and yes, the marriage is in the PRs too -
6 Nov 1848

Charlotte DAVIS, 22, spin, d Daniel, lab

The Search Services of OFHS & the PR transcripts should help you progress further back.  It's worth registering your interests on OXSIL, too - www.rootsweb.com/~oxsil
