SIT: Where are your SIT Entries?
« on: Thursday 18 May 06 18:51 BST (UK) »
Less than one fifth of rootschat members have put the names for which they are searching into the SIT.  If everyone put all their names there we would have a much better chance of finding our cousins and exchanging information.

All you have to do is click on "your surname interests" at the foot of every page and then choose "edit surnames"

I expect so.  I've put most of mine up and I've voted.

I think the SIT is great and Bob's improvements have made it better. Perhaps the mods should impose a penalty on those who haven't put their's up  :o :o :o

Only joking but it's an idea.

I regularly search SIT, in case I find a new contact.
Imagine my surprise when Googling one day, for more references for the One Name Study I am doing, to find a Rootschat reference to the name I was looking for; But it was not entered on SIT .
How much we must all be missing  ::)

Not only am I a regular SIT searcher, but I update mine on a regular basis, I'm all for finding those elusive ancestors who just don't want to be found.  :o :o

I think the SIT is so useful, have had some contact from it.   I have just a few more surnames to add to it and will do and I hope we can encourage others to do likewise!

I've put my names in too, but am wondering, from a Beginners point of view, whether the SIT is not advertised enough.   Maybe Bob could put the link somewhere at the top of the page, rather than the bottom?

I have answered some Beginners queries advising them to put their names into the SIT and they didn't even know it was there!

What do you think Bob?!!

It flashes across the top of the forum page quite often Jan - as a large banner headline. Not sure what else can be done unless a plug for it could be sent to all new members or we could have it as part of the heading in every message. Something like that. I think it's useful. I've had quite a few contacts through it.
