78th Highlanders-Michael Scanlon
« on: Thursday 18 May 06 21:08 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

I'm trying to find out more about one of my wife's ancestors, Michael Scanlon. He was serving in the 78th Highlanders on his marriage to Jane Kirkwood in 1860, in Aberdeen, Scotland. The 1861 census still has him still in the 78th in Aberdeen, his age 34 yrs old, born Ireland. The marriage cert had his father also Michael Scanlon (farmer) and mother Margaret Cumming, no birth place (possible parent marriage 23 Nov 1813 Tralee, Kerry, Ireland).

We have no further trace of him after this.  Suspicion that he perhaps settled in Nova Scotia after 78th posted there, without his wife !

Any help welcome.

Thanks,
