Hi again

Looking for info on Catherine Smith aged 25 and Frederick Smith aged three.  Need to know if they were mother and son.  Lived in Worcestershire (registration district, Upton on Severn).

There are 25 Catherine Smiths aged 25 on the 1891 – but not one of them lives in Worcestershire or was born in Worcestershire according to the transcription.

Believe it or not, there were 4,807 Frederick Smiths and 161 of them were aged 3 years – but only one of them was in Worcestershire living with his widowed mum of 22, but her name was not Catherine.

The ages you quoted, were they the ages you assumed they would be in 1891?

Do you have any further Information ?

First of all, thanks for the effort that you've put in to this.  Please accept my apology for giving you some wrong information. :-[

Catherine was 32 on the 1901 census so would be 22 on the 1891.
She was born in Severn Stoke, Worcester and was living there in 1901.
Frederick Smith was 3 in 1891.

I'm sorry to mess you about and would be very grateful if you could have another try

Hi Denben

That was your ancestor - but she is listed as Kate - often Catherines were called Kath or Kate and she is born in Severn Stoke, Worcs as was young Frederick.

RG12 / 2327/ Folio 77/ Page 37 - No 7 Four Foot Row, Worcestor.
Parish of St Peter the Great.

SMITH, Kate, Widow, 22, Charwoman, born Severn Stoke, Worcs
Frederick, Son, Unm, 3, born Severn Stoke, Worcs.

Hi Chris, that's great stuff.  Now I know that Frederick was her son.  Catherine was my grandmother and she didn't seem to register the births of her children.  She's made things really tough for me - it's taken me over a year to find her.  Now if only I'd met you sooner........

I'm not sure if I believe that she was a widow either.

Grannies, eh?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Denben
1871 Worcester is now on line.
Do you have your Catherine there, she would be two (2)?
Let me know, I'll be happy to look.

Hi, Grub.  Please go ahead.  I believe that her parents were John and Sarah Smith aged 31 & 29.  They almost certanly lived in Severn Stoke in 1871.
