Thank you for your reply.  He was my grandfather but is a mystery man.  He said his father's name was Allan (not sure about the spelling)  and his mother Rosalind.  He was born in Cardiff  in 1883.  Silly me put 1880.  Supposed to be the 26 January.  I have no idea when he came to Australia.  He spoke of a sister but I do not know her name or if it is true.  I have searched census for the name but cannot find.  There are a few by his name but I do not know if it is him.  Complicated isn't it?  Thanks so much for your time.
Regards

Hi Marlene,

On the 1891 Census for Wales there is a William J.Griffiths, born 1882, living with his family in Cardiff, who were:

George D Griffiths born 1883 Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales, Son
Jennette Griffiths born 1852 Rorth Kerry, Glamorgan, Wales, Wife
Sarah Ann Griffiths born 1874 Pontardawe, Glamorgan, Wales, Servant
William Griffithsborn1850 Machen, Devon, England, Head
William J Griffithsborn1882 Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales, Son

Don't know if any of those names ring any bells for you? (They were living in the Roath area of Cardiff).
Romilly.

Thanks so much for your reply.  My grandfather was a mystery man.  All I know is he came from Cardiff.  He told my mother his parents were Allan and Rosalind.  None of them around.  Maybe the parents were the ones that you sent.  I doubt if I will ever find them but he said he had a sister.
I do thank you so much and think this site is wonderful.
Regards
Marlene
