stainby??
« on: Sunday 21 May 06 19:30 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if stainby is in york or lincs?
The 1881 census for john hides says stainby,york...but ive since seen stainby as being in lincs.
Also...would normanby by spital be anywhere stainby? It would solve my problems if it was.
Thanks

The only Stainby I can find is in Lincs - about 8 miles south of Grantham - it is nowhere near Yorks.

Normanby by Spital is about 10 miles north of Lincoln - at least 40 miles from Stainby.

The Normanby JH is in
1841 Caenby
1851 Glentham
1861 Blyborough (married to Martha) only 5 miles from home

Then they all seem to disappear from the radar.

Son John (1856 Yaddlethorpe) appears in Yorks in 1881.

It is the right one!  Martha's birthplace in 1881 is right - Barton.

They have a son called Brownley - the father of the one bap in Normanby was Brownlow - pretty close!

I would guess that Stainby was a bad transcription of Caenby.
