Hi kcloscar

I had a quick trip through the Irvine IGI entries and nothing came up for a marriage between those two.
Could you give us a bit more info please.
If we had the marriage date and the names of the children you have already found it would give something to work on.
What spelling did you use on scotlandspeople to find the certificate?
Did you see a copy on-line or just asked for a transcript?
If you have seen the record it gives the name of the church (if married in church - which lots weren't) The name of the clergyman officiating which would clear up whether it was a Roman Catholic marriage, many of which are not recorded on IGI, or Free Church of Scotland (ditto) or some other branch of the church.
Have you looked for them on a relevant census. Irvine was a small place until they built the New Town so not many residences to look at.

Lots of questions I'm afraid but each answer would offer a clue to finding the solution.

Ok, I have a copy of the page from OPR Births, marriage John Cunningham/Annabel McCechney 08/11/1799- Kilwinning, Ayr

IGI - says John Cunningham, Annabal McCechney 08/11/1799 - Kilwinning Ayr

Children: Listed as:
Jean Cunningham 21/11/1802 F  Irvine Annabella McKechnie/John Cunningham
Elizabeth Cunningham 14/01/1805 F Irvine Annabella McKechnee/John Cunningham

Please notice 3 different spellings of Annabal/Annabella McCechney.  What I am trying to find are the parents of annabal-annabella and John Cunningham and any marriages/death with the children as well as Annabal/Annabella and John.......

Thanks for the help

I did see one more birth entry on IGI and wondered whether Annabella's surname had been mistranscribed:

MARY CUNNINGHAM  Christening:  13 DEC 1800  Irvine, Ayr, Scotland
Parents: Father: JOHN CUNNINGHAM Mother: ANNABELLA MCKINZIE

Hi Kcloscar

I had no joy on scotlandspeople trying Cun*ingham*/McK*ch*n*.  Only the two you already have in IRVINE came up . No joy for Kilwinning at all. The traditional spelling is Cuninghame and applies to the district too.

This is probably a transcription problem with umpteen variations of the names.  The best approach in my view would be to get hold of the LDS film for Irvine AND Kilwinning and work through them noting possible outrageous possibilities. Once you have all their offspring there may be enough OPR comments from the entries to give a clue to the previous generation.
scotlandspeople is great but sometimes you have to know just a little bit more than you have just now.

Good luck

Hi,
I was wondering if you have an Andrew Cunningham in your family tree. He was born about 1812 in Ayr, Sccotland and he had a child with Mary Ross. This childs name was Peter Cunningham born about 1844 in Ayr, Scotland.
Looking forward to your reply
Barbara
