Londonderry Mundell
« on: Monday 22 May 06 09:47 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information regarding my Gt Gt Grandparents who lived in Londonderry

There names are William Mundell and Annie Mundell nee Wallace they were living in Londonderry in 1831 as there son William Mundell was born Londonderry 1831 and a second son James was born Londonderry 1832, sometime after that they moved to Glasgow Scotland where there third son John was born in  1838.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Scruffy.

Hiya scruffy,

I looked at Irish Ancestors Surname Search for the surname Mundell to try to establish where the family may have been in Derry. I don't suppose you know whether they were in the City or somewhere in the county. My search showed 6 in Co. Antrim and 1 in Belfast City during the period 1848-64 when Griffiths Valuation took place in Ireland.

There would be no harm sending a message to Derry Central Library to see if they can produce any information.
Good Luck. Post details of the results of that enquiry as you'll probably need more help from Rootschatters.

Chris

 Hi Christopher
We have been in touch before regarding William Mundell and Ann Mundell nee Wallace and family who I thought came from Londonderry, well I have just found out that William and his three sons and his one daughter were all born in a place called (Inbrano) perhaps a suburb of Londonderry?? Listed below are the abt birth dates, could you please see what you can find out with this new information

William Mundell     birth abt 1791

Elizabeth Mundell birth abt 1825

John Mundell         birth abt 1827

William Mundell    birth abt 1829

James  Mundell     birth abt 1832

Ann Mundell nee Wallace birth abt 1825   Londonderry??

Family moved to Scotland sometime before 1851 as James was Married in Scotland in 1852 and we know all the family were in Scotland in 1851 as they are on the 1851 census in Ancestry .com

Regards Bill

Hi Scruffy,

This Inbrano place is proving difficult to trace.

It's not listed in www.thecore.com/seanruad

Scruffy- if it's a hanwritten item can you post the image with 'Inbrano' so we could see if it looks like something else in County Londonderry?
Did find one Mundell marriage: Esther Mundell of Tulnagee married 846 Draperstown Presbyterian Church.
Irish Genealogy website lists 31 births, 16 marriages, 15 census records, 3 Griffith's Valuation (although 4 are listed on Ancestry), 17 Tithe Applotment records for County Londonderry under various spellings.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
