Jenkin Davies 1858
« on: Monday 22 May 06 20:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,
MY Great Grandfather Jenkin Davies (DOB 13/08/1858...from family Bible) lived and worked in Llangeitho,Cardiganshire and is buried there. I have hunted high and low to find out where he was born, assuming he was born in Cardiganshire but have had no luck. However I have found out from older relatives that when work was lax on the farms he would visit relatives near Aberdare and work in the mines as a timberman, putting up the pit props. His father was also called Jenkin Davies but again have had no luck tying the two together on any census for Cardiganshire.
So I guess I'm clutching at straws and hoping that some one might know where he is hiding in Glamorganshire!!
Thanks for any help.. it really is much appreciated.
Amanda

Thanks for that Sue,
I have just found the same family myself. Could be hopeful as it's the only one so far with a Jenkin Davies Snr AND jnr!! Have also found the same family for 1871 (more children!)but guess who's missing!!!! Jenkin jnr. Would this area come under Swansea or Merthyr Tydfil so that I know which birth certificate to go for first??
Thanks again
Amanda

Is that Neath now or then??
The two remaining certificates for Dec qtr 1858 for a Jenkin Davies are either Swansea or Merthyr (I know he was born in August and should be registered in Sept qtr but there aren't any Jenkin Davies'at all !!!) Why does he not want to be found??
I really should be doing the ironing and making packed lunches!!!
Regards  Amanda
